Love Languages

1. Words of Affirmation
2. Quality Time
3. Receiving Gifts
4. Acts of Service
5. Physical Touch

Discovering your own love languages is important, but discovering your spouses is essential!

WORDS OF AFFIRMATION

Mark Twain Said: “I can live two months on a good compliment”

Emotional love tank needs to be filled by using words that build up. Many couples have never learned the tremendous power of verbally affirming each other

Words can be powerful expressions of love

The object of love is not getting something you want but doing something for the well being of the one you love. It is in fact true that when we receive affirming words we are far more likely to be motivated to reciprocate.

QUALITY TIME

Giving someone your undivided attention. Not watching TV together. When you do that ABC or NBC has your attention, not your spouse

• Talking
• Togetherness: A central aspect of quality time is togetherness. I do not mean proximity; this has to do with focused attention

Many of us are trained to analyze problems and create solutions. We forget that a marriage is a relationship not a project to be completed or a problem to solve.

• One way to establish a pattern of communicating is to talk about three things that happened to you this day and how you feel about them (One of the by products of quality activities is that they provide a memory bank from which to draw in the years ahead)

RECEIVING GIFTS

One of the easiest languages to give.
Physical Presence in the time of crisis is the most powerful gift you can give if your spouse’s primary love language is receiving gifts

ACTS OF SERVICE

Does she like her coffee in bed? Does he feel happy when dinner is ready when he gets home? Requests give direction to love, but demands stop the flow of love

PHYSICAL TOUCH

Touch can make or break a relationship. And communicate hate or love

If your spouse’s love language is physical touch, nothing is more important (for example holding her as she cries).
