The One Minute Drill
1. He talks for 30-60 seconds
– She listens without interrupting
– She summarizes all the points he just made
– She states what she thinks he must be feeling
2. He gives her a grade between 0-100
– She must get a score of 95 or higher
– If she gets lower, he states what she left out
– She summarizes the points again and states what he must be feeling
– Repeat this until she achieves 95 or higher
3. She talks for 30-60 Seconds
– He listens without interrupting
– He summarizes all the points she just made
– “Court Reported” — No Opinions
– He states what she might be feeling
4. She gives him a grade between 0-100
– He must get a score of 95 or higher
– If he gets lower, she states what he left out
– He summarizes the points again and state what she must be feeling
– Repeat this until he achieves 95 or higher
Please set aside 20-30 minutes a day to do this one minute drill for one week to help establish more effective communication and listening patterns.
